A devastating car explosion near Delhi’s historic Red Fort on November 10, 2025, killed 12 people and injured over 24 others. The blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 at a busy traffic intersection near the Red Fort metro station during evening rush hour.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting with top security agencies, including Delhi Police, National Investigation Agency (NIA), and National Security Guard (NSG), to oversee the probe. Authorities have invoked the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and are investigating links to a terror module recently busted in Faridabad. Security has been heightened across Delhi and adjoining states.

Deadly Blast Rocks Capital’s Historic Centre

The blast occurred around 6:52 pm in a Hyundai i20 car that had been moving slowly and stopped at a red light on Subhash Marg, near the Red Fort metro station, a crowded area in Old Delhi. Witnesses described a massive explosion that shattered windows, hurled debris, and set vehicles, including cars and e-rickshaws, on fire within a 100-metre radius.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene, recovering 12 bodies and tending to more than two dozen injured at nearby hospitals, such as Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) and AIIMS trauma centers. Police have cordoned off the area, and the historic Red Fort has been temporarily closed for visitors.

Investigation Underway with Terror Angle

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, present at the blast site and hospitals, described the explosion as “high-intensity” and assured citizens that all angles are being explored. A full-scale investigation involving Delhi Police’s Crime Branch, Special Branch, National Investigation Agency (NIA), Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), and the National Security Guard (NSG) is underway.

Preliminary forensic analysis revealed the use of an ammonium nitrate fuel oil bomb with detonators. Authorities registered an FIR under the UAPA and Explosives Act. The vehicle used was traced to a Pulwama resident, the blast is suspected to be a suicide bombing attack within a transnational terror module recently uncovered in Faridabad. However, nothing such has been proven yet, CCTV footage is being analyzed to piece the timeline and perpetrators.

Heightened Alert and Security Measures

In the wake of the blast, Delhi and neighbouring states have been placed on high alert. Security has been intensified at critical sites, including the international airport, metro stations, and prominent landmarks. Police and paramilitary forces have increased patrols and tightened checks on suspicious vehicles and persons.

The U.S. Embassy in Delhi issued a security advisory urging citizens to avoid crowded places. The incident underscores the continuing threat of terrorism targeting public spaces and heritage sites, especially during major public events and gatherings. Authorities have pledged to bolster urban security protocols and public vigilance in the coming days.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This tragic loss of life near one of India’s most cherished historic monuments is a stark reminder of the imperative for communal harmony, vigilance, and resilience.

The Logical Indian urges citizens to remain calm and supportive of our security agencies as they work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice. Violence only weakens the fabric of our diverse society and sows division. Instead, fostering empathy, dialogue, and mutual respect across communities is crucial to building a safer nation.
