Two young cousins, Yagya Bhatia (20) and Abhav Bhatia (14), were tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident on Delhi’s Ashoka Road late Monday night. The duo was returning home to Ashok Nagar on a motorcycle after watching an IPL match between Delhi and Bengaluru when a speeding goods carrier rammed into them near the Mahadev Road T-point around 10:30 PM.
While the driver fled the scene immediately, Delhi Police have since identified the offending vehicle using CCTV footage and have launched a manhunt. This tragedy has sparked fresh outrage over road safety and the lack of accountability for speeding commercial vehicles in the capital.

The impact of the collision was so severe that both Yagya, a BSc student, and Abhav, a school student, were found unconscious with critical injuries by a police patrol team. They were rushed to a nearby hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
In a heartbreaking detail, it was revealed that Abhav was on a phone call with his father at the moment of the crash, assuring him they would reach home within thirty minutes.
“We have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), Sachin Sharma. He confirmed that forensic teams have inspected the site and officials are currently scanning all available CCTV footage to track the driver’s escape route.
