Indian space agency ISRO today successfully placed in orbit a record 20 satellites carried by its flagship rocket in a 26-minute flight from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. This is the maximum number of satellites that ISRO has been able to launch in a single mission, so far it has been 10. The rocket was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota.
PSLV – Payload
The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) carried India’s 725.5 kg Cartosat-2 series satellite, meant to map the cartographic information of the earth’s surface. The other 19 satellites include LAPAN-A3(Indonesia), BIROS (Germany), M3MSat (Canada), SkySat Gen2-1 (U.S.), GHGSat-D (Canada), 12 Dove Satellites (U.S.), Sathyabamasat (Sathyabama University, Chennai) and Swayam satellites (College of Engineering, Pune). ISRO has launched 57 satellites of foreign countries on 18 different PSLV missions.
ISRO, till today, has launched many space missions and almost all of what ISRO has achieved is by indigenous space launch technologies. The world denied India space technology, ISRO rose up to the challenge and delivered.
