Did you know that 1 organ donor can save upto 8 lives? And donating your organs is profound in more ways than one. Not only does it save lives of multiple people, but in a small and meaningful way, eases the pain of your family too. It helps them cope with the loss of a loved one.
According to All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS) nearly 200,000 people need a new kidney every year and also 100,000 livers are required in India, but only 2-3 percent of the demand is met. According to World Health Organization(WHO), only about 0.01 percent in India donate their organs, while in Western countries around 70-80 percent people happily pledge their organs, saving several lives. The issue lies in the lack of awareness regarding organ donation.
However, there is a general atmosphere in the country to overcome this. In the last couple of years, we have seen over a dozen of green corridors across the country and stories of individuals ranging from 4 years to 80 year whose organs were donated by their families post their death. What’s missing is you! The Logical Indian appreciates the Times of India for taking forward the organ donation campaign and seeks your help in supporting the cause. Pledge to donate your organs today.
Organ Donation Day (13th August) is an initiative by The Times of India, in partnership with Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, to create awareness about Organ Donation and encourage people to sign up as organ donors.
