The United States Food and Drug Administration’s (USFDA) Centre for Devices and Radiological Health has recognised a Bengaluru-based scientist’s invention as a “breakthrough device” in the breast, liver, and pancreatic cancer treatment. machine
The device called Cytotron is invented at Chairman of Organisation De Scalene by Rajah Vijay Kumar. It is capable of bringing “substantial improvement on a clinically significant endpoint(s) over available therapies.” With it, the review and development of the treatment will be carried out considering the seriousness of the disease as well as the availability of other treatments.
“It is a great feeling that after so many years of hard work, against all the odds, an institution like the USFDA is designating our work as a breakthrough in the treatment of three types of cancer,” said Vijay Kumar.
Apart from Cytotron’s advantages as a treatment for cancer, the FDA also acknowledged the fact that the device is made in India with minimal imported components. Cytotron is already approved and being used to treat cancer in countries like UAE, Hong Kong, Mexico and Malaysia.
How Does It Work?
Cytotron, which has been developed after 30 years of research, uses fast radio bursts (FRB) to communicate with cellular command and control to regulate a specific gene or protein. It first alters the protein pathways called P53 to induce death in cancer cells; then it restricts the spread of cancer by inhibiting the cells responsible for the spread of cancer. Cytotron is specifically designed to stop cancer cells from spreading, considering that a large percentage of cancer patients die from metastasis or the spread of cancer.
Cancer Treatments
Different types of cancers demand different treatments, depending on the size or progression of the disease. In some cases, a patient may undergo just a single type of treatment, but others may require a combination of two or more. Some patients may also participate in clinical trials for new possible treatments.
While the objective of cancer treatments is to cure cancer and allow the patients to live a healthy life, in some severe cases, the goal may be to slow the growth of cancer and enable the patients to live symptom-free life as long as possible.
