Haryana Teacher Sunita Dhull Transforms School, Trains 14,000 Students; Wins National Award 2025

Sunita Dhull, a Geography and Social Science teacher from Murthal, Haryana, has been selected for the esteemed National Teacher Award 2025 in recognition of her 29 years of exemplary service to education. Employed at PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, she has contributed significantly beyond academics by training over 14,000 students in first aid and emergency response through her role as a National Master Trainer with the Red Cross.

Alongside teaching, her efforts in improving school discipline, infrastructure, and integrating experiential learning have transformed her school environment, earning her accolades from educational officials and peers.

Transforming Education Through Discipline and Innovation

Sunita Dhull’s career spans nearly three decades, dedicated to nurturing and educating students in the Sonepat district. Beginning as a Post Graduate Teacher, she has made a mark by integrating discipline and practical learning into her pedagogy.

Coming from a disciplined background inspired by her family’s military connection, she implemented a strict timetable system to cultivate punctuality and responsibility amongst students. She prepared detailed notes and worksheets to aid understanding, fostering a learning environment that balances rigour with engagement. Since 2014, her innovative approach has included organising school exhibitions, educational tours, and cultural programmes that bring lessons alive and foster interactive learning experiences.

Her involvement in the State Resource Group and FLN Resource Group since 2019 and 2020 respectively highlights her commitment to advancing collaborative and experimental teaching methods. These efforts help students develop critical thinking, confidence, and creativity, skills essential for holistic development in today’s rapidly changing world. Her focus extends beyond subject matter expertise to nurturing life skills and character through education.

Championing Life Skills and Environmental Awareness

Sunita’s contributions stretch well beyond textbooks. As a National Master Trainer with the Red Cross, she has equipped over 14,000 students with first aid and basic life-saving skills, preparing them to respond effectively in emergencies. This practical knowledge not only enhances student safety but instils in them a sense of responsibility and societal care. Her role as a district cultural coordinator since 2022 involves promoting ethical and social values alongside academic goals.

Her environmental initiatives include spearheading the “One Tree for Mother” campaign, which actively engages children in tree plantation drives and awareness about environmental conservation. Through this, she emphasises the importance of sustainability and care for the planet, weaving these values seamlessly into the school curriculum and culture.
