On Friday, shots were fired outside Bollywood actor Disha Patani’s residence in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, with notorious gangsters Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara claiming responsibility for the incident. According to the gang’s social media statement, this attack was triggered by alleged disrespect shown by Disha’s sister, Khushboo Patani, towards revered spiritual figures, Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Maharaj.

Authorities have heightened security at the Patani home, while the family has yet to release an official response. The event has alarmed local residents, sparking debate around safety and the growing nexus of crime and social controversy.

Gangsters Issue Direct Threat Over Religious Sentiments

The firing took place at villa number 40 in Civil Lines, Bareilly. Notorious criminals Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara used a Facebook post to claim responsibility, arguing they acted out of outrage over alleged insults to Hindu spiritual leaders. Their message warned not just the Patani family, but artists across Bollywood, that any disrespect towards their religion or saints would yield severe consequences.

“This was just a trailer… If next time again she or someone else shows any obscenity toward our religion, we will not leave anyone alive from their house,” the note stated, intensifying fears. Police are reportedly investigating the authenticity of these threats and have bolstered patrols in the area.

Family at Centre of Social Debate

At the heart of the controversy is Disha’s sister Khushboo Patani, who recently condemned spiritual leader Aniruddhacharya for controversial remarks about women and live-in relationships. Khushboo critiqued him for implying that women aged 25 and above in live-in relationships are promiscuous. She asserted, “If only he was around me, I would have made him understand the meaning of the words he has used against women.

They are anti-national,” emphasising that her comments were meant for Aniruddhacharya rather than Premanand Maharaj. The incident thus highlights how social media and public statements surrounding religious issues can quickly escalate, drawing in powerful criminal interests and fuelling widespread unease.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

The Logical Indian strongly condemns any form of violence or intimidation, calling for collective action to ensure dignity and freedom of expression for all citizens. This incident amplifies the urgent need for robust security and thoughtful dialogue that respects both religious plurality and women’s rights.

Society must strive for harmony through non-violent means, with authorities and civil society taking proactive steps to prevent the criminalisation of ideological disputes.
