The conflict began when Surya and his friends were invited to a lane by an acquaintance, Asad, under the pretext of the Bakrid festivities, where a provocative conversation regarding the slaughter of an animal rapidly deteriorated into a fatal physical assault.
While the victim’s family alleges a pre-planned trap rooted in an eight-month-old dispute, the police are actively investigating the precise progression of the conflict. Local residents and right-wing community groups have expressed immense anger over the incident, prompting heavy police deployment in Khoda Colony to secure law and order. In the latest development, the Ghaziabad police have registered a murder case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhit (BNS), arresting three named accused individuals Farhan, Asif, and Nawab while launching coordinated raids to apprehend the prime suspect, Asad, who remains at large.
The Invitation: A Festive Pretence Turns Provocative
The incident unfolded around 3:30 PM in Navneet Vihar, situated within the highly congested Khoda Colony. Surya Pratap, a student at a local private school, was walking with his friends Vicky and Ayush when they encountered Asad, a youth from the neighborhood whom they had known for some time. According to eyewitness accounts provided by Surya’s friends, Asad invited them near his residence under the pretext of the Bakrid celebrations, asking Surya if he had ever seen a goat being slaughtered.
When Surya replied that he had never seen it and expressed his unwillingness to watch, an argument broke out. Surya and his companions attempted to de-escalate the situation and walk away, but the interaction quickly turned hostile as verbal abuses and expletives were hurled at the group.
The Attack: A Brutal Re-ignition of Past Enmity
As Surya’s friends objected to the sudden hostility, the confrontation turned violent. Asad allegedly produced a knife and repeatedly stabbed Surya in the abdomen. Eyewitnesses state that Surya was struck four times with intent to kill. Despite the efforts of the medical team, Surya tragically passed away on Friday noon.According to senior police officials, an underlying enmity had existed between the two youths for about eight months, involving previous physical altercations. Although they had reportedly returned to speaking terms just days prior to the incident, the old grudge erupted fatally during this encounter.

The tragedy has provoked deep grief and distinct reactions across the local area, resulting in a severe outpouring of family anguish. Surya’s mother, Saroj, and his brother, Yash, have demanded immediate accountability and maximum legal punishment for the attackers, with his mother publicly alleging a deliberate trap. Expressing immense heartbreak over losing her younger son, she along with Surya’s aunt and sister condemned the provocative remarks made just before the stabbing and demanded the immediate arrest of the prime suspect.
In response to the escalating tension, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhawal Jaiswal stated that multiple police teams were immediately constituted to track down the offenders. Following an initial FIR, law enforcement authorities successfully arrested three named accused individuals and took two additional suspects into custody, while urging the public to ignore unverified social media rumours. Concurrently, due to the sensitive timing of the holiday, local community groups and right-wing organisations gathered to protest, prompting the administration to station a heavy police presence at the Khoda police station and across the neighborhood to prevent any communal flare-ups.
