Sometimes, the hole that is created in our heart due to loss of someone close is deep enough to change us. One incident changed the life of Dadarao Bilhore.
Dadarao Bilhore would never have thought that one of the happiest days of his son would turn into the day when he lost him. On 28 July 2015, Dadarao Bilhore’s son Prakash was returning after taking admission at Navjeevan Education Society’s Polytechnic College. He was riding pillion with his cousin Ram, when their bike hit the pothole which was filled with water. The bike tipped over and both Prakash and cousin were tossed in the air. Prakash fell facing the ground and bled from his ears, nose and mouth all the way to the hospital. At Holy Spirit Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His son lost his life due to the carelessness of civic officials and a private company who dug up the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) for some construction work and didn’t cover the pothole.
After the incident, wherever Dadarao Bilhore spots a pothole on the roads, he fills it up and keep looking for potholes that could put motorists, especially two-wheeler riders, in trouble.
This heart-wrenching story of a father, not only shows how strong he is but also point towards a problem which is growing every day. Civic officials and municipalities who are responsible for these potholes, never realises the damage they are doing. The problems of potholes are not only concentrated to Mumbai but is common in major cities. Few months back, a husband was arrested in Bangalore because his wife lost her life while she was riding pillion with him.
It’s time that despite our political allegiance, we start questioning authorities and demand their accountability.
