Ramesh Dongre, a resident of Kandivali Mumbai, has dedicated his post-retirement life to spreading awareness on cleanliness in public places.  He stands at the Kandivali station daily, either early in the morning, or in the evening, wearing banners bearing slogans to educate people about cleanliness and the need for an overall hygiene .

Mr. Dongre had retired from his job at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in 2010. Ramesh felt that his contribution to society was yet to begin. He was supported by his wife and sons since the day he decided to take the leap to do something for the society. Five years back with an aim to play his part for the better of the society, Ramesh began his new job; standing at the Kandivali station all day and spreading awareness about keeping our surroundings clean.

Ramesh preaches, that when we all are ever inclined on keeping our home clean, so should we do to the public places as well. He believes, that it is the job and sole responsibility of each and every one of us to keep our country just as clean as our homes.

It is truly commendable how Mr Ramesh has taken up cleanliness awareness drive as a post-retirement occupation. It puts into perspective how general hygiene has been overlooked by the public. The garbage, spitting and many other ways by which the public space has been littered are a testimony to the above mentioned. The need of the hour is awareness, sensitivity to the environment and fellow citizens; it is in this context that what Mr Ramesh is doing deserves a lot of credit.

The Logical Indian would like to thank Mr Ramesh for spending his valuable time for the sake of public health and cleanliness. We hope many will follow suit and bring about a change in the public hygiene scenario of India.
