As far as going to school or college is concerned we have dozens of excuses to bunk the classes and take out some free time for chilling out with friends or colleagues without even wondering about the children who are denied of proper education and facilities.
Sombari Sabar, an 11-year-old tribal girl is an inspiration for everyone. After losing her parents at a tender age, none of the relatives came forward for her rescue so she started selling firewood to sustain herself.
Hailing from the Maoist-affected Astakwali in Ghatsila sub-division in East Singhbhum, Jharkhand where neither she has electricity in her house nor she has money to buy a kerosene lamp still this valiant girl has not missed a single day of school. She is fulfilling her father’s wishes who wanted her to be well educated.
All her teachers have been moved by the high spirits of this fearless girl and praising her. Anil Rai, a teacher at Astakwali said, “Sombari is a little wonder. She lost her mother at a young age to tuberculosis and her father Ratan Sabar died a month ago. None of her relatives came forward to support her. She stays alone in a dilapidated half-constructed Indira Awas. Sombari never fails to attend school. She is studying in class 5 and has full attendance.”
Many NGO’s and private organisations have applied to adopt Sombari after hearing her courageous tale. Tata Steel and the Ananda Marg Ashram want to adopt her. Apart from some organisations, a banker from Syndicate Bank Jamshedpur and a teacher couple from Ghatsila have applied for adopting the girl. The final decision of her custody will be taken by Damuria district child protection officer Chanchal Kumari.
Kudos to this audacious little girl who didn’t give up on life and chose to fight for her right to be educated.
The Logical Indian salutes Sombari for her hard work, determination and never give up attitude. Despite of suffering such hardships she made a path of her own motivating millions of the orphans to follow.
