From One Delivery Network To Another – Swiggy Helps Mumbai’s Dabbawalas Brave the Monsoon

Think back to the 90s. It’s pouring down in ‘Bombay’, and you are at your workplace staring out the window when a gentle breeze brushes against your face.  At that exact moment, you open the lid of your freshly arrived Dabba and there you have it, a lip-smacking hot and hearty meal.

The heroes with their trademark Gandhi topi who ensured that delicious home-cooked meals were delivered right on time in the ‘Bombay’ days continue to do so in the ‘Mumbai’ days as well. While we appreciate the food that is delivered to us, we often forget to appreciate the people who bring it to us.  Every morning, these delivery men navigate the city’s streets, lanes, and bylanes, to deliver over 2,00,000 home-cooked meals to office-goers.

Decades have gone by, but these unsung heroes remain unsung. With the kind of work that they do on a daily basis, even a word of appreciation can go a long way. This Monsoon, Swiggy did a little something for these Dabbawalas. As a gesture of their gratitude, Swiggy, surprised the delivery ninjas with sturdy raincoats so that they remain dry and protected in the rains. An act of kindness that warmed many hearts.
