Arizona Woman With No Arms Becomes A Licensed Pilot

Have you ever seen a pilot without arms?! Now the world is all set to witness its first armless pilot Jessica Cox, a native of Arizona, USA. Pilot Jessica Cox was born without arms and has now become the world’s first armless pilot, reported CNN. She flies a plane with her feet, by placing her right foot on the yoke and her left foot on the throttle. “I was born with no arms, I’m just replacing, what pilot do with their hand, I do it with feet,” says Cox.

The journey

Coz says, “My mother had a normal pregnancy. And afterwards, upon my birth in the world, it was an outright stun to both of my parents, particularly my mother, who was traumatized when the doctor brought me over saying, ‘your infant doesn’t have any arms’.” Even after 30 years of her birth, it’s still a mystery, why Cox did not develop arms in the foetus.

Like most mother, my mother was very helpful, caring and supportive, but she too had some concerns, she always remained anxious about my future. Little did she knew, I would involve to become a third-degree black belt, learn to play piano, surfing, driving a car, and motivating millions of people along the way.

Jessica mother said, her first introduction with the plane was not so good, she was terrified, and every time she gets into it, and we used to pray for a safe journey. One flight in a small plane changed everything, the pilot of the flight took her to the front of the plane. The plane had dual controls. He then took his hands off of the control and let my daughter do the flying.

Cox began training to become a pilot, after graduating, but it was not easy to find a flight instructor, who could teach her, she went to numerous instructor and with trial and error, it took her three years to learn flying.

This year she was certified with Federal Aviation Administration to fly an Ercoupe, a light sport aircraft. “Several questions were asked regarding her capabilities, a lot of safety concerns were there, and there were many who doubted on whether this was possible, but she overcame all of it.

Born to inspire

“I often thought of going back as I was born without arms, but one thing that kept me going was that I had created tremendous impacts on others life especially those who are disables, now I live a life the way I wanted to, I believe, even if something is scary to you, it’s important that you should face it.”

In childhood I had several role models, now I wanted to role models for this generation and the upcoming one.
