The parents of a six-year-old girl who was declared brain dead have donated her organs and given a new lease of life to five people. Janahvi, the six-year-old girl from Chitradurga, Karnataka was declared brain dead by doctors of a private hospital, Mangalore, and she has become one of the youngest organ donors, as reported by Deccan Herald.

According to the report, the girl’s heart was successfully transplanted to a 9-year-old boy from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

Her parents have also donated her eyes and kidneys.

Tippeswamy, the girl’s father told Deccan Herald that he did not believe that his daughter was no more. “She was a very active girl, just a month ago she complained of stomach pain and had frequent giddiness. When she was unable to even write in her books, we decided to take her to the hospital for a thorough check-up,” he said.

Although her parents had taken her to a private hospital in Chitradurga first, her disease was not detected. She was then taken to another private hospital in Mangalore where she was diagnosed with a tumour in her brain. Tippeswami said that his daughter was lively in the hospital and doctors had initially thought there were no health issues with Janahvi. A brain tumour was detected after conducting an MRI scan.

Janahvi was then referred to Father Muller hospital in Mangalore. She was operated on for nearly fourteen hours to remove a tumour and its water content from the brain. Janahvi’s parents were informed of the risk involved in the operation. After surgery, she was mostly in a state of coma. She made some movements and opened her eyes. But later her parents were informed that she was brain-dead. Janahvi’s parents agreed to donate her organs after the doctors and coordinators from a government agency which facilitates organ transplants requested them to donate her organs.
