Several parts of Kerala are reeling under flash floods this monsoon which has claimed 39 lives and over 35,000 people have been placed in 200 shelter camps. The incessant rain has capsized the boat of two fishermen, flooded houses of many, leading to an indefinite powercut. Many other people are injured or missing as rescue operations are underway by the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and military team.

In such a situation, described as ‘very grim’ by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, rescue operations and relief efforts are going on. What stood out amidst the crisis is Pinarayi Vijayan, along with the opposition party leader, Ramesh Chennithala took off in an Indian Air Force helicopter to visit flood-affected districts in the state.

In the video published on the Facebook page of CM Vijayan, it can be seen that Ramesh Chennithala from Congress, along with Chief Secretary Tom Jose and Kerala Police Chief Loknath Behra reached Wayanad and they announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the people who lost their homes. This is the first instance in Kerala’s political history that the Leader of Opposition along with CM has visited rescue and relief operation site, as reported by Scroll.

Started visiting the flood affected areas of Idduki, Alappuzha, Ernakulam,Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram. Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan, Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala, Cheif Secretary Tom Jose, Police Chief Loknath Behra, Revenue Additional Chief Secretary P H Kurien are accompanying.

The triumph of humanity

The flood has left many homeless who have to beg for food and protection. Seeing this, a blanket merchant from Maharashtra donated all the stock he had for the victims of the flood. Vishnu brought 50 blankets from Maharashtra to Kerala to sell them. Seeing the people in distress, he donated all the 50 blankets.

Not only this, a dramatic video captured by a News18 cameraman from Idukki in Kerala showed a rescue officer in a blue coat, running with a child in his arms over a bridge which was on the way of an overflowing river. The officer risked his life to get the feverish child to a hospital on the other side of the bridge. The brave officer has been identified as Kanhaiya Kumar, a National Disaster Rescue Force personnel from Bihar. He was stationed in Kerala for the rescue operation, reported The News Minute.

Leaving all rivalries aside, the Bengaluru Football Club is also trying its best to help Kerala. On a Facebook post, they have urged people to donate basic necessities like soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, first aid kits, and packaged goods in their stadium.

The Logical Indian community applauds the people who are risking their lives to help people in need. We also appreciate Vishnu for donating the blankets without even thinking about the money he might have earned from them. It is also commendable that the Leader of Opposition and the CM kept all their political rivalries aside in this time of crisis and joined hands to help the people in need.
