The odds were stacked against Mark Dharmai owing to being a dwarf and a tough background he hailed from. But more often it is the people who overcome the odds who etch their name as one of the great ones and Mark Dharmai is one of them. Mark is a badminton player who has represented India in various international tournaments and has won many laurels for the country.
Some of Mark’s Achievements
1.) Mark has represented India four times at the World para-badminton championship and bagged the bronze medal twice.
2.) He has won two gold medals in shot put and javelin throw at the Para Athletic State Games held in Gondia.
3.) With absolutely no professional training or coach, Mark had won a bronze medal at the World Championship in Germany, in which he partnered a Russian in doubles.
Makes his Mark
His father is a fisherman and coming from an economically backward family Mark was not able to afford to train with a coach and Mark quite often finds himself in the midst of a helpless situation where he is not able to find sponsors. Despite living in a 100sqft shanty in Chimbai village, Bandra, the 30-year-old deserves all the credit for what he is today.
The Logical Indian requests the government to take into consideration Mark and many others like Mark who have taken the hard way to unleash their potential. Let us encourage these heroes who will, in turn, inspire many to make India proud. It is high time help reaches out to the people who need the most.
