Debbie Taylor is being called the “walking, living, miracle”. “I have some angels up there that said it wasn’t my time yet,” Debbie said after being saved by three doctors on a plane.

When the world had come to the point of believing that there is no humanity left on earth, three doctors came forward to prove it wrong. Debbie Taylor was on a flight back to the United States from a vacation in Vietnam, where she nearly died after suffering a medical emergency 40,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean.

As reported by ABC action news, Debbie Taylor told the woman next to her that she was not feeling well and then became unresponsive. That is when three doctors who happened to be on board, came into the picture and started giving Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the lady.

When the pilots of Delta Airlines finally got a chance to land the flight in Alaska for an emergency, Debby was taken to the hospital. She had gone to the coma but she recovered quickly. Her daughter, Cheryl Cowans, rushed to her mother’s side in Alaska.

“You saved my life. Thank you very much,” she tell the doctors who were quick to jump in action and save her life, as reported by ABC action news.

Delta won’t release the names of the doctors, due to their confidentiality rules. But Taylor hopes her gratitude will reach their ears.

“I just want to say thank you, my mom is my best friend,” said Cowans, Debbie’s daughter. Now she is celebrating Christmas with her grandchildren.

How to save a life?

Debbie Taylor was very lucky to have the doctors on board. But what would have happened if there was no one there to help Debbie on the plane, a daughter would have lost a mother.

To help people in this kind of circumstances, it is essential to know the proper steps to save them. Here are the proper steps to perform CPR on any person. Keep in mind, if there is a professional present, let them carry out the process but if not, try to stick to these few steps.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a life-saving exercise during a cardiac or breathing emergency. But, even after training, retaining the CPR steps and flawlessly administering them is a challenge. However, learning through a step-by-step guide would help us as a citizen to save some one’s life.

Before Giving CPR

Check the condition of the person. Call the emergency service for assistance.

Loosen the airway. Amidst the person resting on his or her back, lean the head back slightly to lift the chin.

Check the breathing. Listen carefully, for no more than 10 seconds for sounds of breathing. If there is no breathing, then begin the CPR.

CPR steps

  1. Use two fingers just below one side of the victim’s the jawline (the carotid artery) to check for a pulse. If the victim has a pulse, continue the directions as follows.
  2. Place the breathing mask over the victim’s face so that a seal is created around their nose and mouth.
  3. Tilt the victim’s head back to open their airway
  4. Give one breath every 5 seconds. The patient’s chest should swell with each breath given. If not, re-tilt the head and give breathing again. This procedure is called RESCUE BREATHING.
  5. Continue release breathing for one minute and then recheck the pulse. If the patient still has a pulse, proceed release breathing, (checking the pulse each minute). If there is no pulse, move on to step six.
  6. Connect your fingers with one hand on top of the other. Then, place the base of your palm on the breastbone immediately between the victim’s chest. Position yourself, elbows locked, directly above the victim.
  7. Give 30 short and robust condensations, pressing the chest 1–2 inches (2.5–5.1 cm). After 30 squeezings, re-tilt the head back and give two rescue breaths. This process is called CPR.
  8. Repeat step 7 until the Emergency service arrives on the scene and take over care. NEVER leave the victim unattended.

By following these steps, you can save a person’s life when in a situation of emergency.
