Karnataka Cops Save Four Others Accompanying The Lynched 32-Yr-Old Hyderabad Techie

When the story of a 32-year-old techie from Hyderabad being lynched by an enraged mob in a village in Bidar in Karnataka broke out last week, stories of the policemen posted in the area trying to save others from getting lynched surfaced as well.

Reportedly, the ten policemen posted in the area were armed with nothing but lathis. Even though they were up against a mob of 2,000-odd irate villagers, the policemen still managed to save four others from the wrath of the mob.

In an interview with The News Minute, one of the constables, Mallikarjun recounted his horrid experiences from July 13. He said that not only him, but all his other colleagues were horrified by the mob who were hurling abuses at them. All efforts to pacify the large group of people were in vain as well.

The incident of mob lynching

Apart from Mohammad Azam, who was killed in the incident, four others accompanying him were saved by Mallikarjun and other constables. According to media reports, the deceased Mohammed Azam, along with his friends, Mohammed Salman, Salham Al-Kuwaisi, Noor Mohammed and Afroz were travelling by car to Handikera village in Bidar district of Karnataka.

During the drive, they had stopped near Balkut Tanda to get something to eat. One of them then offered chocolates to a few school-children nearby. This led to suspicion owing to fake WhatsApp messages being circulated about child-lifters in the area.

The men had managed to escape in their car after which villagers on motorcycles chased them. The car overturned when it hit the roadblock created by the villagers by felling a tree. The men were assaulted and pelted with stones, despite their efforts of trying to pacify the locals. Azam, having been hit in the head, reportedly died on the spot. It was then that the police arrived.

Cops save others

Mallikarjun told The News Minute, “We began talking to the mob and pleading with them to disperse. I told people that the law would take care of the matter, but they did not listen. The people accused us of colluding with child abductors and that they had to protect their own.” Having threatened the mob with lathi-charge, Mallikarjun jumped in, only to cover one of them from the angry mob.

The new report also states that Mallikarjun while trying to save the others, he himself suffered injuries including a broken kneecap. When The Logical Indian attempted to contact him, Mallikarjun remained unavailable.
