From being abandoned at birth to becoming a representative of the new Karnataka government of sorts, little Kumaraswamy has already lived a life and half in his few days of existence.

For going beyond her call of duty, a Bengaluru city police constable, Archana was hailed by many for her act of kindness in breastfeeding an abandoned boy, who has now been named Kumaraswamy.

It was almost instinctive for Archana to breastfeed the child who was found near a construction site in Bengaluru’s Electronic City, on Friday, June 1. Talking to The Logical Indian, she said that she couldn’t help but do it since it came instinctively to her.

Archana, a mother of a three-month-old, only returned to work recently, after completing her maternity leave.

Among those who hailed her for her act was none other than Karnataka’s newly elected chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy. He took to Twitter on Wednesday and wrote

However, Archana today said to The Logical Indian that she has only read and heard about the CM ’s invite. “I have not received any official invite from their end yet,” she added.

Baby Found At A Construction Site

The baby was only a few hours old when he was found. A ragpicker spotted the new-born stuffed in a plastic bag under a bush near a construction site in Celebrity Layout, Doddathoguru.

Reportedly, he brought it to the notice of a shopkeeper nearby who informed the local police. It was then that Assistant Sub-Inspector Nagesh R arrived at the scene and rescued the hours-old baby.

He then brought the baby to the police station, where Archana took over the responsibility of nursing the infant. She said, “the umbilical cord was still wrapped around the baby’s neck when they found him.”

She further said that there were traces of blood on the baby’s arm and head. “Apart from that, the baby was fine.”

However, it was not her decision to name the child after the CM. “Everyone around us wanted us to name the baby Kumaraswamy, and we did,” added Archana.

The baby has since then been placed under the care of  Shishu Mandir orphanage at Hosur Road where Archana and her colleagues have been following up with the health conditions of the baby.

The Logical Indian Take

Today, the child has a second chance at life, all thanks to the joint efforts of the Electronic City Police and Constable Archana, who went out of her way to keep the infant from starving. The Logical Indian commends Archana for her act of generosity.
