A pregnant woman in north Kashmir’s Bandipore district was taken on a stretcher for two and a half kilometres on foot in waist-deep snow by Indian Army due to bad weather conditions and heavy snowfall on February 8, 2019. She was taken to the district hospital, Bandipore, in an army ambulance, the official said, reported the Hindustan Times.

On February, 8 the company commander of Panar army camp of Bandipore got a call from a villager asking help to evacuate his pregnant wife Gulshana Begum to hospital. Due to bad weather conditions and a significant drop in temperature, the road became inaccessible. The roads were covered with heavy snow, thus bringing a halt to any vehicular movement. The men of the Bandipore Rashtriya Rifles reached out to the victim in the nick of time and took the lady to the hospital. The officials said that the understanding the need for timely coordination with every minute that counts, the Army had already tied up with the civil authorities and arranged for doctors at the hospital.

After a check-up, it was conveyed that the lady was pregnant with twins and further required a caesarean for which was rushed to Srinagar hospital. She on the same night safely delivered twin baby girls.
