“I won’t trade humanity for patriotism”

Pakistani journalist Sehyr Mirza started an initiative by posting a photograph of herself holding a placard. The placard read, “I am a Pakistani and I condemn Pulwama terrorist attack”. This was followed by hashtags #AntiHateChallenge and #NoToWar.

Very soon, a few other Pakistani women followed suit and held up similar placards.

On February 14, in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, over 44 CRPF jawans were martyred in a terrorist attack. The terrorist outfit, Jaish-E-Mohammed claimed responsibility for the attack. Sadness and despair engulfed the whole nation. This also further strained the Indo-Pak relationship. Keeping in view the present situation, Mirza started this initiative and asked to join in.

Mirza even posted a poem by Sahir Ludhianvi, which says, “Whether blood be ours or theirs, its the blood of the humankind.”

While speaking to The New Indian Express, Mirza said that a war-like situation which has arisen after the Pulwama attack was “distressing because of the silence”. She further said that she felt it was necessary to break the silence and give out the message of love and warmth. “Hating is very easy and it’s challenging in the current times to stand up for peace. The post is widely being shared and appreciated in India by peace supporters. A lot of love and positive messages are coming in. At the same time, I have faced negative reaction from trolls from both countries,” she added.
Many followed Mirza and tweeted/posted on the same line:

Pulwama terrorist attack

On February 14, over 44 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were martyred in a suicide attack in the southern part of Kashmir. The worst attack in two decades of Kashmir conflict happened when a suicide bomber’s Scorpio SUV laden with explosives rammed into a CRPF bus killing many. The Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack and has identified a Kashmir based local rebel as their bomber.

The Logical Indian appreciates Mirza for starting the initiative and also other women from across the border who have joined her. As we continue to receive videos and reports of families of martyrs mourning their deaths, one is forced to retrospect the grave effects of war.
