In a random act of kindness, a man on an American Airlines Flight gave up his first-class seat to a woman from Florida and her 11-month-old daughter. Both of them were travelling from Orlando to Philadelphia, where the daughter, Lucy, gets treatment for a chronic lung disease at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
The incident
“To the man in 2D. Today you were travelling from Orlando to Philly. I don’t know you, but I imagine you saw us somewhere. I was pushing a stroller, had a diaper bag on my arm and also lugging an oxygen machine for my daughter,” wrote Kelsey Zwick, the mother, in a Facebook post that is now viral. It was then that a flight attendant came up and told her that a man on the flight wished to exchange his seat with her.
Since Kelsey and her daughter pre-boarded, they did not get a chance to see the man. When she realized why he wanted to switch seats, she was overwhelmed and could not hold back her tears. “It wasn’t just the seat; it was the culmination of everything we’ve been through the past two years,” wrote Kelsey. In her Facebook post, she thanked the man not just for the seat but for noticing them and realizing that things may not always be easy, reported NDTV.
By now, her Facebook post has received over 6 lakh ‘likes’ and more than 4 lakh ‘shares’.
Kelsey further lamented the fact that she could not thank the passenger at that point in time. But according to a report by USA Today, Kelsey’s Facebook post subsequently helped her connect with him and she said: “He was thanking me for (giving him) a birthday to remember. It was the best day.”
A report by The Logical Indian talked of a similar incident where 24-year-old Patrisha Organo, a Philippine Airlines flight attendant, learnt that a baby on the flight was crying because she needed milk and her mother had run out of formula milk. It was Organo who finally breastfed the baby. Her Facebook post on the incident too had gone viral.
The Logical Indian salutes these true heroes for the generosity and kindness they have shown to people they did not even know. It is true, all heroes do not wear capes.
