Becoming the torch-bearer of cleanliness mission for her village 104-year-old woman sold off her goats to build toilets. To make her village an open defecation free zone, she is taking this noble initiative at such a senior age.

Kunwar Bai, who sold 8-10 goats she owned for a total cost of Rs 22,000 to build two toilets in her home. Subsequently, she started showing other villagers the toilets at her home while informing them about its importance.

Now every home in the village has toilets. She is leading the way in this other villagers to build lavatories in their home, thus transforming the village into an open defecation-free zone.

Common Sense is good enough to live healthy lives by following simple hygienic practices. And this was again proved by uneducated Kunwar Bai Yadav, a 104-year-old woman who hails from a Naxal-hit Kotabharri village in Dhamtari district, nearly 100 km from the state capital of Raipur. She is not aware of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan because she doesn’t watch TV or reads the newspaper  but she is doing what she can.

On the eve of the launch of the ambitious “Rurban Mission” that is for developing 300 villages across the country as urban growth centres, PM Modi glorified her accomplishment as a big sign of changing India, he further went on touching the feet of Kunwar Bai Yadav.

The Logical Indian congratulates Kunwar Bai for acting on the anxious issue of open defecation. In her endeavour of making her village a better place to live she has inspired a lot of tribal people in realising the importance of the health issues associated with open defecation and the steps that need to be taken in improving the condition of such villages. We believe that the day is not far away when every house in India will be equipped with personal toilets and woman need not have to go to the open to defecate.
