Rohit Kumar, a 20-year-old mobile cover seller from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, has cleared the NEET-UG exam 2025, scoring 549 marks and securing an All India Rank (AIR) of 12,484.

Despite financial hardships and the demands of running a roadside stall, Rohit balanced work and study, often studying until 3 am after a full day at his shop. His achievement has been widely celebrated, drawing praise from educators and the local community, and he now hopes to secure admission to a government medical college in Jharkhand.

Hard Work and Perseverance: Rohit’s Daily Struggle

Rohit’s journey was marked by relentless determination. He managed his family’s mobile cover stall with his elder brother in Sakchi market, supporting his family after his father, a vegetable seller, lost steady work. Rohit’s daily routine involved working at the stall from noon to 4 pm, then returning home to study late into the night, often until 3 am, and starting again at 7 am the next morning.

He was a student of Physics Wallah’s free ‘Ummeed’ batch, which provided coaching support. “I used to work all day selling phone covers and study till 3 am. Then, I would wake up at 7 am and go back to work,” Rohit said in a widely shared video. Physics Wallah’s founder, Alakh Pandey, personally congratulated Rohit and gifted him a doctor’s coat in recognition of his achievement.

From Adversity to Aspiration: The Road to NEET

Rohit’s interest in medicine was sparked during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he worked at a medical store to help his family make ends meet. After completing his Class 12 board exams, he dropped out of college to focus on NEET preparation. Initially unaware of the exam, he learned about NEET from his brother and began self-studying with online resources and YouTube videos.

In his first attempt in 2024, he scored 485 marks, but with renewed focus and support from free coaching, he improved to 549 marks on his second attempt. Rohit credits his elder brother as his mentor and motivator throughout this journey

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

Rohit Kumar’s story is a powerful testament to the resilience and potential found in India’s youth, regardless of their economic background. His achievement underscores the urgent need for accessible education and support systems for students from underprivileged communities. The Logical Indian applauds Rohit’s perseverance and the community support that enabled his success.
