Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) strong electoral performance in West Bengal and Assam, calling it a “historic” and “unprecedented” mandate. Addressing party workers after emerging trends showed major gains for the BJP, including its first-ever government formation in West Bengal, PM Modi said the victory reflects “people’s power” and years of organisational effort.
He also credited BJP workers across the country, saying their “penance and struggle” had turned into success. Early Election Commission trends suggest the BJP is leading or winning a majority in West Bengal while retaining a strong position in Assam, though final results are awaited.
From Gangotri to Ganga Sagar: Modi hails ‘historic mandate’
Speaking at the BJP headquarters, PM Modi said, “The 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections will be remembered forever. People’s power has prevailed and BJP’s politics of good governance has triumphed.” He added that the mandate reflects public trust in development and governance, thanking voters across West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry.
In his remarks, he also said, “The lotus has bloomed from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar,” highlighting the BJP’s expanding political footprint. Modi further credited “countless karyakartas over generations” for the party’s success and assured that the NDA government would continue focusing on development and welfare.
Workers’ effort, development pitch at the centre of BJP’s message
PM Modi emphasised the role of BJP workers, stating that their “years of penance” had translated into electoral success, adding that he could see “the same happiness on their faces” as the public mandate unfolded. He reiterated that “where there is BJP, there is development,” pointing to governance achievements across states. Senior BJP leaders also echoed this sentiment, attributing the performance to grassroots mobilisation and welfare schemes.
Meanwhile, opposition parties in West Bengal, including the Trinamool Congress (TMC), have said they will review the final results once the Election Commission completes counting, urging caution against premature conclusions.
High-stakes elections reshape political landscape in East India
West Bengal and Assam have witnessed closely fought contests marked by intense campaigning, welfare promises, and strong political narratives. In West Bengal, the BJP is reported to be leading or winning a majority of seats, signalling a major shift in a state long dominated by the TMC.
Assam is also expected to return a stable verdict in favour of the BJP-led alliance. Analysts note that these results could strengthen the BJP’s national position ahead of the next general elections, while also reshaping opposition strategies in eastern India.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
Elections are a cornerstone of democracy, and every verdict must be respected with grace, regardless of political affiliation. While celebrations and critiques are natural in a vibrant democracy, what matters most is that governance remains focused on citizens’ welfare, dignity, and inclusion.
Political victories should not deepen divisions but encourage accountability, dialogue, and a commitment to public good. As India witnesses yet another significant electoral shift, how can political parties ensure that their mandate translates into unity, empathy, and meaningful development for all citizens?
Winning and losing are a natural part of democracy and politics. However, the people of five states have shown the world why our country is the mother of democracy.
