Guwahati Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against several YouTubers and social media influencers, including Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Samay Raina, Apoorva Makhija, and Jaspreet Singh, for allegedly promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions on a show titled India’s Got Latent.

The FIR was registered after concerns were raised about the show’s content.

Details of the FIR

The Guwahati Crime Branch has registered the case citing sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and other relevant acts. According to authorities, the show featured vulgar and sexually explicit discussions, deemed offensive and inappropriate.

Authorities have stated the FIR was filed against the named YouTubers and social media influencers for “promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion”.

Background and Reactions

The action follows rising concerns over content shared by social media personalities, with authorities stressing the need for responsible digital content creation.

In response to the controversy, one of the YouTubers has apologised for remarks made on the show, admitting that comedy is not their strength. Separately, calls have been made for stricter regulations to curb obscene content on Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms.
