Fact Check: Photoshopped Image Of Uddhav Thackeray Paying Tribute To Sonia Gandhi Shared As Real

As Uddhav Thackeray is all set to be the new CM of Maharashtra and lead the alliance of Congress, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the state, a lot of fake images have surfaced on Facebook and Twitter. One of the fake images is gaining a lot of public attention. In the photo, Uddav Thackeray can be seen paying homage and respect to the interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Fact Check

The image being made viral is photoshopped. After performing a reverse image search on google, we got to know that Bal Thackeray’s image in the frame inside the photo has been edited with Sonia Gandhi.

ANI posted the original image on their official twitter page.

We also came across various articles reported by media houses like News 18, Times now and Free Press using the original photograph with the image of Bal Thackeray, the founder of Shiv Sena in it. News 18 image caption reads, “Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray pays tribute to party founder and his father Bal Thackeray, in Mumbai on Tuesday”.They have also given image credit to PTI.

The photo that is being morphed was originally taken by PTI, but instead of Sonia Gandhi, the image originally has a photo of Bal Thackeray.
