A video is going viral on Facebook and Instagram which has been shared by a person named Kumar Uttam. This video shows what appears to be a group of policemen shooting down protestors against the Citizen Amendment Bill in Dibrugarh, Assam.

The video is 14 seconds long and is followed by a caption written in Bengali, “Assam Police is shooting down protestors against the CAB Bill. Shame on BJP.”

Fact Check

This video is actually of a mock drill undertaken by the Khunti Police in Jharkhand on November 1, 2017. It is an old video and was earlier shared with a claim that Madhya Pradesh Police were firing at protesting farmers in Mandsaur district, which led to the killing of five farmers. The video has gone viral again this time in the context of Assam.

In this video which is around a minute long, where there is a voice announcement at the end talking about the mock drill being conducted by the Khunti Police.

In this 2 minute long video, one can see the signboards which are in Hindi and not the Assamese script. This is followed by police personnel running with shields on which ‘Jharkhand Police’ is imprinted.


Conclusion

The video of a police mock drill in Jharkhand has been shared multiple times as police violence in other states, and it has been passed off as CAB protest shootings in Dibrugarh. Hence, the claim of the video is misleading.
