Honouring The Real Champions Of Bengaluru, Namma Heroes Award Felicitated The City Workers

Seldom is it realised how our everyday lives are made easy by the unsung heroes of our society who we more often than not easily take for granted. Come to think of it, the otherwise everyday lives can literally come to a scathing halt if it is not for these workers who keep the wheels of the city relentlessly moving. Recently, the 5th edition of ‘Namma Heroes Award’ that was held at Hotel Conrad in Bengaluru honoured the real champions of the city that included Pourakamikas, scavengers, police constables, traffic constables, fire safety workers, govt hospital nurses, BMTC Drivers and BESCOM linemen.

The event that was in association with Prestige Group was curated by social entrepreneur Anil Shetty. It turned out to be a massive success in terms of drawing pertinent attention towards those heroes of the society who stay devoid of any attention, appreciation or praise.

The winners included names from across different government departments. KG Venkatarama, G Rangaswamaiah and Channapa won from the Fire Department, Purushotham BV, Ranghaswamy K and Devaraje Gowda won from BESCOM Department, Chandramohan, Ravi Hanchiner and Praveen won from the Police Department, MV Gopal, Kantha Raju and Srinivas won from the Traffic Department,Balram, Shreedhar and TB Bhadrappa from the BMTC and Krishnappa, Shivalingu, Chennigappa from BWSSB. Among the women, Anitha, Girijamma and Devi showed their might from the BBMP Department and Sharanya, Kavitha and Shila, nurses from Government hospitals also bagged the awards.

This year around, ‘Namma Heroes award show’ was attended by esteemed guests like Kiran Mazumdar Shaw who is the Chairperson of Biocon Ltd, Maharaja of Mysore Shri Yaduveer Krishnadatta Wadiyar, Members of Parliament Ms. Sumalatha Ambareesh and P C Mohan, MLA NA Haris and Tejasvi Surya, Cabinet Minister Shri Ashwathnarayana, South Indian Actors Pranitha Subhash,Ragini Dwivedi, Samyukta Hornand and Prajwal Devraj. Guests who came down from across the borders included Consul General of Israel, Dana Kursh, Deputy Consul General of France, Mr.Elode Textier and Consul General of Denmark, Mr. Jette. Besides, Nisha Millet an Olympian Athlete also came down to grace the occasion.

The ‘Namma Heroes’ event also hosted a number of other MLAs, officers, corporate leaders and other prominent faces of Bengaluru. Kiran Mazumdar, Chairperson of Biocon Ltd said, “ Namma Heroes is a unique award show that recognises the real heroes of our society who truly deserve to be honoured for their service”. On the other hand, Actress Pranitha Subhash who contributed cash prize to the winners said, “No society can ever function without the continuous efforts of these real workers who in all difficulty do their best to keep the city clean, safe and moving”. The organiser of the event Anil Shetty in his accord added, “We must build an inclusive society where everyone feels important and we must also always uphold the dignity of labour.”

It is true that without the consistent support and relentless hard work of our workforce on a daily basis, society can come close to a standstill, the system that keeps everything intact can come crashing down in no time and cities can start to look far from being spick and shiny. The Logical Indian appreciates the initiative by ‘Namma Heroes Award’ to shine a well-deserved light on the super warriors of our society and to acknowledge the hard work of those who deserve it the most.
