All About The Kiss of Love!

All About The 'Kiss of Love'!

We have been receiving numerous emails from our community members requesting us to have our say on the ” #KissOfLove ” Campaign. Here’s our coverage on one of the boldest campaigns of the recent times.

1. What is “Kiss Of Love” Campaign?

It was a movement started by Facebook page “Kiss of love” asking Kochi youth to protest against several instances of moral policing in Kerala like killing of a youth by a mob for allegedly having an affair with a married woman, a female artist and her male co-artist were detained for travelling alone in night, a pregnant woman sitting alone in a bus shelter at night was beaten by a mob and many other similar incidents occurred over the period of time.

The movement got sparked in October 2014 when a news channel showed a couple hugging and kissing each other inside a cafe and a mob of attackers from Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha vandalized the cafe based on that report.

2. To what extent “Public Display of Love” goes?

We believe, public place is a space owned by families, lovers and individuals and each one of us should respect that. There isn’t anything wrong or obscene in showing affection by holding hands, hugging and kissing each other above the neck as stated by the Honorable Supreme Court of India, but it shouldn’t be taken as groping, smooching, touching each other’s private part or performing any kind of sexual act in public place and shouldn’t be in violation of the section 294 in the Indian Penal Code.

3. What is the outlook of The Logical Indian on this issue?

We support the movement which was initially started by the people of Kochi for the cause behind it. We are also against any kind of moral policing be it in form of violence or blackening faces of people or celebrating Valentine’s day.

However, we completely disagree with the various protests orchestrated at other cities without any logical reason, resulting into inconvenience to the people and wastage of police time in controlling them. It also resulted in dragging attention of the whole media and nation being swayed away from basic problems inflicting our country.

At the same time, people acting as Moral Police should be severely dealt under the law.
