Ashish Joshi, the Controller of Communication Accounts, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, who was suspended last month after he filed a complaint against AAP rebel Kapil Mishra, has complained to the Delhi Police. He has been receiving threats over Twitter for calling out Twitter trolls.

One of the tweets he received from an internet troll by the handle @batmanbabu threatened him of raping his wife. He also claimed in the mail that the two Twitter handles, @batmanbabu and @TrueIndology through which he has been receiving threats are reported connected to each other.

Complaint to Delhi Police

“I was harassed and abused by the trolls massively when I questioned the views of @TrueIndology on Sufism. I responded to @TrueIndology’s defamatory and anti-minority tweet against noted journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani,” said Joshi in his complaint.

He said that further analysis made him realise that the two said handles regularly trolled and posted defamatory tweets against journalists and other citizens. He has also alleged in his complaint that soon after he questioned @TrueIndology views on Sufism, an army of trolls was unleashed. One of the handles @batmanbabu threated to rape his wife. “I was shocked to receive rape threat on Twitter,” he said. He said that he could trace the owner of the @batmanbabu to be located in Delhi.

While submitting his complaint, he attached several screenshots supporting his claims. “When I reviewed the timeline of @TrueIndology, I found that it blatantly indulges in hate mongering against the minority communities of India, which is a violation of Sections 153A and 295A of IPC,” he writes in his complaint.

Joshi, in his complaint, has also accused two websites, OpIndia and MyNation of publishing “slanderous and defamatory article” against him, post the Twitter row with @TrueIndology. One being contacted by The Print, Nupur J Sharma said, “We don’t wish to comment on people who appear disturbed. We hope he seeks help and gets well soon.” However, there was no response from MyNation on this.

In the complaint, Joshi has asked Commissioner of Police to file an FIR against @batmanbabu, @TrueIndology and websites OpIndia and MyNation.

When The Logical Indian contacted Ashish Joshi, he said, “Being a student of History, I write a blog on Indian History. I am a postgraduate in History. I started the blog to counter the untruths being spread in the name of Indian History. History is based on historical sources and not hearsay. So when I exposed @TrueIndology on history related to Sherwani, I was viciously attacked by trolls and abused on Twitter. It is a shocking state of affairs that instead of debating on facts, there is a deliberate and concerted attempt to silence and muzzle the truth based on facts. This trend is antithetical democracy.”

Joshi’s suspension

Rebel Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kapil Mishra released a hate video (now taken down by Youtube). In this video, Mishra called out for violence against public figures like Naseeruddin Shah, Kamal Hassan, Congress Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, lawyer Prashant Bhushan, journalist Barkha Dutt and activist Shehla Rashid. Considering the volatile nature of the video, Ashish Joshi, the Controller of Communication Accounts, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, brought it to the notice of the Commissioner of Police, Delhi. He sent a letter on February 25 to the Commissioner, and on February 26, an order from the Department of Telecommunications was released, suspending Ashish Joshi.

Neither the reason for the suspension was mentioned in the order nor was the period for which he was suspended was mentioned.
