An Acid Attack Victim In Delhi Just Needs Proper Healthcare And Emotional Support
This is a story that was brought to our notice a few days ago. Kamna Ashok Kumar had visited Connaught Place (CP) in Delhi, where she met a woman named Ritu Roy. Ritu was found sitting outside the Bata shoe store in B block of CP.
Ritu told Kamna that her husband had passed away many years ago. And that she was attacked with acid by a man whose sexual advances she refused. Kamna made a post on her social media page requesting people to help.
On seeing this story, The Logical Indian reached out to Make Love Not Scars (MLNS) to help the woman. Ria Sharma, the founder of MLNS and Tania Singh, an employee of MLNS, visited Ritu today. She told us that Ritu is suffering from leprosy and didn’t seem to be mentally sound. Ritu spoke incoherently, and the things she said did not make much sense. She also told passersby that Ria was a doctor from Apollo Hospital who visited her regularly to check on her. This was the first time Ria was meeting her.
The rambling notwithstanding, Ria and her friend offered to take Ritu to a hospital. She denied the help and said that she wants to get healed internally, which is what truly matters to her. However, she did accept Ria’s offer to go to the hospital for a checkup next month.
The Logical Indian take
After going through the entire case, we would like to say that it may be that Ritu’s story is not true. But, it can’t be denied that she is suffering both mentally and physically for which she needs treatment along with affection. While speaking she also said that she is very happy with her situation and is receiving constant support from strangers and other homeless people living there. As of now, we are unsure of what steps will actually help her. But, anyone who wants to help her should aim to improve her health and happiness. She needs a complete health check-up.
This case is a reflection of how such people do not have any government support or any place to go.
