“It is absolutely certain that we must act to protect nature much more efficiently than ever before. Tomorrow – when mankind will step forward to a totally uncertain future – will be too late.” – Eraldo Banovac

Last year – 2016 – was the hottest year recorded in history. The first half of 2017 is en route to being declared as the hottest 6 months in recorded history, and 2017 is on track to dethroning 2016 as the hottest year ever.

Worldwide temperatures are increasing every year. Evidence shows that 2000 to 2009 was hotter than any other decade in at least the past 1,300 years. The increasing number of droughts, devastating storms, and floods we are witnessing today are attributed to global warming. One of the leading contributors to global warming is our personal vehicles.

A typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.7 metric tons of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) per year. This number can vary based on a vehicle’s fuel, fuel economy, and the number of miles driven per year.

In addition to CO2, automobiles produce methane, and nitrous oxide from the tail pipe and hydrofluorocarbon emissions from leaking air conditioners. The emissions of these gases are small in comparison to CO2; however, the impact of these emissions can be important because they have a higher global warming potential (GWP).

According to the 2001 Census, India had a population of 1,027 million with approximately 28% (or 285 million people) residing in urban areas. Can you imagine what implication this is bound to have on the environment?

So what do we do?

The first step to combat the problem of increasing CO2 emission from our cars is to find a fuel that is cleaner and safer for the environment.

One such fuel is an Age Resistant Technology (ART) oil introduced by TOTAL. It is called TOTAL Quartz and assures the highest level of engine protection, fuel efficiency, engine cleanliness, improved performance and stabilised temperature.

Most of us remain unaware of the repercussion of using car engines that are not well taken care of. This results in higher temperature, oil oxidation, degradation, and increased friction which ultimately builds up sludge and damages engine parts – directly or indirectly causing carbon emissions which leads to global warming.

However, we now have a probable solution due to TOTAL’s vision for a clean environment. By improving the performance of an engine, TOTAL Quartz also appreciably reduces its fuel consumption.

As much of the energy consumed by human beings is used for transport, high-performance products, combined with advanced technology, will make our cities cleaner and our modes of transportation more efficient.

How does the new Age Resistant Technology(ART) introduced by Total assures to help the environment?

There are three attributes that ensure the oil is environment-friendly –

  • stabilized molecular structure of the engine oil,
  • protection against mechanical wear upto 64% and
  • protection against sludge builds upto 18%.

TOTAL Quartz oil with Age Resistant Technology (ART) increases the interactions between oil molecules by keeping the structure of the oil molecules stable. By ensuring that the oil molecules are resistant to oxidation to provide ultimate protection from oil breakdown. This helps reduce carbon emission and increases the performance of the engine.

For too long we have been engaging in unchecked urbanisation and carbon emissions so as to increase global sea levels and temperatures and ensuring historic levels of pollution, climate change, and preventable disasters.

It goes without saying that humans have persistently degraded the environment. But as most of us are aware of our past mistakes, we need to take a resolution on this World Environment Day to protect the planet. Let’s do our bit and help save the environment in any and every possible way!
