The e-Sanjeevani telemedicine service has dramatically improved healthcare accessibility, especially for seniors and those facing challenges in travel or avoiding hospital crowds.

Since its 2019 launch, it has facilitated over 349 million consultations nationwide by early 2025. Backed by the government and integrated with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, the platform connects over 230,000 healthcare providers across 28 states and 8 union territories. Offering two teleconsultation models—provider-to-provider and patient-to-doctor—it reduces hospital burdens, offers free use, and supports multilingual access, with daily consultations nearing 700,000.

Bridging the Urban-Rural Divide with Dual Teleconsultation Models

e-Sanjeevani operates through two complementary modes. The eSanjeevani AB-AAM model connects Health and Wellness Centres to specialists, enabling assisted consultations via community health officers. The eSanjeevani OPD model, launched amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, offers direct video calls between patients and doctors at home.

This ‘hub-and-spoke’ infrastructure spans over 131,000 wellness centres and about 17,000 hubs, including medical colleges and specialty hospitals, ensuring wide geographical reach. States like Andhra Pradesh lead usage with about 60 million consultations, and over 56% of users are women while seniors comprise 13%, exemplifying the platform’s inclusivity.

Technological Innovations and Integration Strengthening Healthcare Delivery

A critical component of e-Sanjeevani’s success is its integration with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), offering over 730 million unique health IDs that create seamless digital health records. This integration enables continuous care across facilities and supports data-driven public health planning.

Furthermore, AI-driven advancements complement e-Sanjeevani by enhancing diagnostics and early detection, including AI-powered disease screening and outbreak predictions. These technologies help bridge gaps in healthcare quality between urban and remote areas, lowering costs and streamlining patient management.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

e-Sanjeevani stands as a testament to how compassion, technology, and governance can harmonise to make healthcare equitable and accessible. By easing hospital pressures and prioritising convenience and safety, the initiative uplifts vulnerable populations like senior citizens and rural communities.

It embodies the values of empathy and social harmony central to The Logical Indian’s vision.
