A youth from Bag Sewania, Bhopal, was arrested after a viral video showed him performing a dangerous stunt on the roof of a moving car near Ekant Park. The footage, which gained traction on Friday, depicts the individual setting the vehicle in motion and climbing onto its roof while the car continued to roll with no one in the driver’s seat.

Following a complaint by the traffic police, Habibganj police identified the suspect through his vehicle registration and charged him with rash and dangerous driving under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. The youth, an aspirant for the National Defence Academy (NDA), allegedly recorded the act for social media engagement and has since been released on notice as the investigation continues.

Reckless Stunts for Social Media Clout

The incident in the Char Imli area highlights a worrying trend of individuals risking their lives and public safety for digital validation. According to the police, the accused and his friends recorded the stunt specifically to share on social media platforms.

The video shows the youth starting the car and then exiting the cabin to sit on the roof while the vehicle remains in motion, unguided. Officials confirmed that the arrest was made following video verification and tracing the vehicle’s registration number. While the charges are serious, the police noted that because the sections invoked are bailable, the accused was released on notice after the initial arrest.

A Potential Career at Risk

The background of the accused adds a layer of gravity to the situation, as he is currently preparing for competitive examinations to join the NDA. This career path requires a high degree of discipline and a commitment to public service, qualities that stand in stark contrast to the rash behaviour displayed in the video.

The incident serves as a cautionary tale of how a momentary quest for “likes” can lead to a criminal record, potentially damaging future professional prospects. The Habibganj police are continuing their probe to ensure all aspects of the dangerous display are addressed.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

At The Logical Indian, we believe that the pursuit of digital fame should never supersede public safety and personal responsibility. This incident is a distressing reminder of how “viral culture” can encourage reckless behaviour, undermining the harmony and safety of our public spaces. For a young person aspiring to a prestigious career in the armed forces, such a lapse in judgment is particularly concerning. We must move towards a society that values discipline, empathy, and the well-being of the community over fleeting social media trends. True influence is found in contributing to positive social change, not in endangering oneself and others on the road.

Do you believe that social media platforms should implement stricter content moderation to prevent the promotion of such dangerous stunts, or is the responsibility purely on the individual and law enforcement?
