A woman in her 30s from Delhi has been booked for allegedly inflicting burn injuries on her five-year-old stepdaughter using an electric iron, the times of India reported. The incident was reported early Sunday morning after the child’s father, who runs a chicken shop in Ghazipur Mandi, found his daughter in distress with burns on her legs.
The child was immediately taken to Lad Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for emergency treatment. The police registered a case and questioned the woman, emphasizing the need for strict action against such cruelty.
Child’s Suffering Unveiled
The case came to light after the child’s father received a distress call from a neighbour around 1.30 am, reporting loud cries from his house. When he rushed home, he found his young daughter in severe pain, with burn injuries on her legs and skin peeling in several areas.
The girl narrated that her stepmother had caused the burns, an allegation that distressingly suggests abuse over a period of time. Witnesses and neighbours say they had sensed some disturbance but were unaware of the severity of the abuse.
A police officer stated, “We have registered a case under relevant sections, including section 118 for causing hurt and sections of the Juvenile Justice Act. The woman has been questioned, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full truth.”
Background and Investigation Updates
The child’s father, who is separated from the woman, filed a complaint following the incident. The girl was immediately taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital where doctors provided emergency care. The police have seized the electric iron allegedly used to burn her and are conducting forensic tests.
The case also involves allegations of ongoing physical and emotional abuse, with the child’s relatives stating that she was often kept confined and not allowed to meet her parents. The woman, now booked under IPC sections related to cruelty and causing hurt, has been taken into custody, with police promising further action after thorough investigation.
