A Delhi man surrendered after allegedly poisoning his family with Dhatura and strangling them due to debt.

In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old man, Yashbir Singh, walked into Laxmi Nagar Police Station in East Delhi on Monday to allegedly confess to the brutal murder of his mother, sister, and teenage brother.

Facing severe financial distress and unemployment, Singh allegedly laced the family’s “prasad” with poisonous Dhatura seeds before strangling them with a muffler.

The accused claimed he intended to end his own life after securing a massive insurance policy but decided to kill his family first following a heated argument with his mother. Police have recovered the bodies and are currently verifying the details of his chilling confession.

Spiral Of Despair

The backdrop of this horrific crime is rooted in a series of personal and financial failures. Yashbir Singh, who previously worked as a private driver, had been unemployed for over six months, leading to immense pressure.

His father had moved out to live separately in Haryana, leaving Yashbir as the primary, yet struggling, figure in the household. Further complicating his mental state was a strained marriage; he had reportedly sent his wife to her maternal home just a day before the murders.

Neighbors described the family as deeply religious and quiet, unaware of the internal turmoil brewing behind closed doors.

Execution Of Chilling Plan

On the day of the incident, Yashbir allegedly collected Dhatura seeds from the Yamuna Bank area and prepared poisoned laddoos. He served these to his mother, Kavita (46), sister Meghna (24), and 14-year-old brother Mukul, knowing their religious nature would prevent them from refusing “prasad.”

Once they lost consciousness, he used a muffler to ensure they would never wake up. During interrogation, he revealed a dark obsession with death, claiming he had attempted suicide multiple times through staged accidents and snake bites to trigger a ₹1.5 crore life insurance payout for his family’s benefit.

Human Cost Of Stress

The victims were well-regarded in their community; Meghna worked as a lab staffer, while young Mukul was a Class 7 student who frequently visited the local temple.

The accused told police that his mother had challenged him during an argument, stating that if he wanted to die, he should take the family with him.

This statement apparently became the catalyst for the triple homicide. While the police are awaiting autopsy reports to confirm the exact cause and timing of the deaths, the case highlights the devastating intersection of mental health crises, unemployment, and lack of social support systems.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

At The Logical Indian, we are deeply saddened by this profound loss of life, which underscores a growing crisis of mental health and financial hopelessness in our society. No amount of debt or despair should ever lead to such a violent conclusion.

This tragedy serves as a grim reminder that we must foster communities where people feel safe seeking help for their mental and financial struggles before they reach a breaking point.

We advocate for stronger social safety nets and accessible mental health resources to prevent such senseless acts of violence. True peace can only be achieved when we value life and support one another through our darkest hours.
