A gruesome discovery was made in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on Friday after the skeletal remains of a 34-year-old woman, Priyanka, were recovered from her home nearly four months after her death. The deceased lived with her father, Uday Bhan Biswas, who reportedly kept the body inside their locked house in the Begum Bagh area while leading the family to believe she was receiving medical treatment.

The matter came to light after suspicious relatives tracked down Biswas at a local tea stall and pressured him for answers. Following a preliminary investigation, the police have sent the remains for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death and are currently questioning the father to understand the circumstances behind his failure to report the demise.

A House of Secrets in Meerut

The recovery of Priyanka’s remains has sent shockwaves through the local community, as the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, almost entirely reduced to a skeleton. For months, the house remained locked, and the father-daughter duo was noticeably absent from the neighbourhood.

Speaking on the matter, Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Vikram Singh stated, “The body was found in a skeletal state. We have taken the father into custody for questioning. The door was locked from the outside, and it appears the woman died several months ago.”

Relatives, who grew concerned after months of silence, eventually confronted Uday Bhan at a tea stall. While he initially claimed his daughter was in a Dehradun hospital, he eventually confessed that she had passed away and her body was still inside their residence.

A Pattern of Isolation and Silence

The incident highlights a disturbing period of isolation for the family. Neighbours reported that they had not seen Priyanka or her father for approximately four months, assuming the family had moved or traveled for her treatment.

It was only after repeated failed attempts to contact them that family members began a search. This tragic timeline suggests that Biswas lived alongside his daughter’s remains for an undetermined period before locking the house and moving to a different area of the city.

The police are now looking into the medical history of the deceased and the mental state of the father to ascertain why no funeral rites were performed or why the authorities were not notified at the time of her passing.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This incident is not just a police case; it is a harrowing reflection of the deep-seated isolation that can exist within our urban spaces. That a woman’s death could go unnoticed for four months while her father lived in silence points to a breakdown in community vigilance and the possible absence of a mental health support system.

At The Logical Indian, we believe in the power of “looking out for one another.” While the legal system will investigate the criminality of the act, we must ask ourselves how a family can slip through the cracks of society so completely. Empathy and timely intervention are the cornerstones of a harmonious community; perhaps if we were more connected to our neighbours, such tragedies could be avoided.
