A 20-year-old Delhi University student had earlier claimed that acid was thrown at her near Laxmi Bai College. However, Delhi Police investigation revealed the attack was allegedly fabricated using toilet cleaner. Her father, Akil Khan, was arrested on rape charges filed by the wife of the main accused, Jitender Singh.
Khan reportedly admitted to orchestrating the fake acid attack to frame Jitender and his associates as revenge. CCTV footage and forensic evidence confirmed no acid attack occurred, and the accused were away from the incident spot at the time, turning the case into one of deceit and vendetta.
Background of the Alleged Attack
The woman, a second-year BCom student under DU’s Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board, claimed that Jitender Singh and his two associates hurled acid on her while she was heading for an extra class. The case initially sparked outrage and police launched an inquiry.
However, inconsistencies in her story and absence of forensic proof caused suspicion. CCTV footage from around the time and place showed Jitender and his family far away from the scene, while medical reports confirmed the burns were consistent with a household chemical, not acid. Authorities suspect the woman poured toilet cleaner on herself, as part of a plot allegedly masterminded by her father.
Father’s Arrest and Motive
Delhi Police arrested Akil Khan, the woman’s father, who is separately accused of raping the wife of Jitender Singh during her employment at Khan’s hosiery unit between 2021 and 2024. Khan allegedly blackmailed the woman with private photos and videos.
After the wife filed a complaint, Khan concocted the fake acid attack to divert attention and retaliate against Jitender’s family. Khan’s confession and forensic findings prompted police to book both father and daughter under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for fabricating a case and misleading investigations.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
This incident highlights how personal vendettas can manipulate dignity, resources, and the law under the pretext of crime and victimhood. Fabrication of such sensitive crimes can cloud real cases and deeply harm societal trust. The Logical Indian emphasises the importance of due diligence and balanced justice, urging communities to focus on compassion, truth, and conflict resolution.
