A 28-year-old man was killed and another injured in a brutal late-night attack in Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur area after unidentified assailants allegedly slit the victim’s throat and opened fire, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Mohammad Irshad Alam, also known as Guddu, was declared dead on arrival at hospital, while 27-year-old Mohammad Farooq sustained a gunshot injury to his left hand and was discharged after treatment.
Police have launched a manhunt, formed multiple investigation teams and are examining CCTV footage and technical evidence to identify the attackers. An FIR is being registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), while forensic teams continue to analyse evidence collected from the crime scene.
Police Launch Multi-Team Investigation
According to Delhi Police, a Police Control Room (PCR) call reporting gunfire was received at around 12:41 am on Tuesday, prompting local police and senior officers to rush to the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that the attackers fired at least 11 rounds during the assault. Crime scene investigators recovered 10 empty shell casings and two live cartridges, while Alam’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Officials said several police teams have been constituted to trace those responsible using CCTV footage, technical surveillance and other investigative leads. Farooq, who suffered a bullet injury to his left hand, was treated at the AIIMS Trauma Centre before being discharged. Police have not yet disclosed a motive behind the attack and said the investigation remains ongoing.
Attack Raises Fresh Safety Concerns
The killing has once again highlighted concerns over violent crime in the national capital, particularly incidents involving firearms.
While investigators are exploring all possible angles, authorities have not confirmed whether the attack was linked to personal rivalry, organised crime or any other motive. Officials have appealed for patience as forensic analysis and technical surveillance continue.
Police said all available evidence, including CCTV recordings from nearby areas, is being examined to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify the suspects. The investigation is expected to gather further clarity once post-mortem findings and forensic reports are available.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
Violent crimes such as this leave families devastated and communities deeply shaken. While law enforcement must ensure a swift, transparent and evidence-based investigation, equal importance must be given to preventing such incidents through effective policing, timely intelligence and stronger community engagement.
Justice is not only about bringing the perpetrators to account but also about restoring public confidence in safety and the rule of law. How can authorities and local communities work together to create safer neighbourhoods while ensuring that justice is delivered swiftly and fairly?
