A shocking case of deception and sexual assault unfolded in Delhi when 27-year-old Aarav Malik, a delivery agent working for a major e-commerce platform, was arrested for allegedly raping a woman doctor employed at Safdarjung Hospital.

Malik reportedly impersonated an Indian Army Lieutenant after connecting with the victim on Instagram. Maintaining contact from April 30 to September 27, 2025, he claimed to be posted in Kashmir, sending photos of himself in a military uniform purchased online from a Delhi Cantonment shop to bolster his false identity.

This facade allowed him to gain the doctor’s trust, leading to a visit to her residence in the Masjid Moth area earlier this month, where he allegedly drugged her food and sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious. The victim lodged a complaint on October 16, prompting police to launch a swift investigation, resulting in Malik’s arrest during a raid in Chhattarpur, Delhi.

The Police Investigation and Official Statements

Delhi police officials have confirmed that Malik has been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita concerning rape, criminal intimidation, cheating by personation, and causing hurt with intent. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest), Amit Goel, stated that Malik’s actions were a calculated betrayal of trust, facilitated by the fake army uniform and social media manipulation.

The police investigation is ongoing, with authorities probing whether Malik targeted other victims through similar methods. Malik is cooperating with investigators, disclosing during interrogation that he had bought the uniform online to sustain his deception. Law enforcement agencies have assured the public that they will diligently work to bring any other potential offenders to justice and strengthen safeguards against such crimes.

Contextualising the Crime and Broader Implications

This incident is part of a disturbing trend wherein perpetrators exploit social media and false identities to carry out sexual assault and fraud. The use of military impersonation, in particular, adds a layer of manipulation that tears at societal trust in revered institutions. Medical professionals, already under immense pressure from their demanding roles, face heightened vulnerability to such betrayals.

The case has stirred a strong emotional response within Delhi’s medical and broader communities, highlighting the urgent need to enhance awareness and protective measures against impersonation and online grooming. It also shines a light on the importance of supporting survivors with sensitivity and providing them with justice and healing options.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This tragic event underscores the imperative for a society committed to empathy, justice, and safety. The Logical Indian advocates for comprehensive legal reforms and community-driven initiatives that prevent identity fraud and protect vulnerable individuals, especially women in public service roles.

Beyond legal recourse, fostering a culture of kindness, trust, and vigilance in digital and physical spaces is essential to combat such heinous acts. It is vital to ensure that victims receive unwavering support while reinforcing mechanisms to deter and punish offenders promptly.
