The Delhi High Court and Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport received bomb threat emails on Friday, August 14, a day before Independence Day, prompting immediate security checks and heightened vigilance across the capital. Bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs, fire department personnel and local police were deployed at the affected sites.
Searches found no suspicious objects, and the threats were subsequently declared hoaxes. The Delhi High Court’s Joint Secretary, Advocate Kunal, said the situation was under control and that the threat appeared to be fake. Authorities are continuing to investigate the source of the emails while maintaining enhanced security at sensitive locations across Delhi.
Security Teams Deployed
The Delhi High Court received an email referring to a possible “blast Delhi High Court @ 2:11 pm”, following which the Registrar General alerted the Delhi Police. Security teams, including bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog units, searched the court premises.
Advocate Kunal, Joint Secretary of the Delhi High Court, said, “The bomb threat appears to be fake” and added that “everything is under control” as the premises were being scanned. A separate email threat was also received at Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, leading security agencies to carry out checks there. Officials said no suspicious object was found at either location.
Delhi On Heightened Alert Ahead Of I-Day
The threats come as Delhi steps up security ahead of Independence Day celebrations, when large public gatherings and high-profile events require additional security arrangements. According to officials, at least five locations in the capital received bomb threat calls, with fire service vehicles dispatched to the affected sites.
Security agencies have also increased checks at government installations and other sensitive locations. Investigations are underway to establish who sent the threatening communications and whether the emails were connected. The High Court threat reportedly contained references to Khalistan and appeared to originate from an account associated with Babar Khalsa Canada, although the investigation into its source is continuing.
