The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Saturday declared the Class 10 Second Board Examination 2026 results, taking the overall pass percentage for the academic year to 96.78% after combining the results of the main and second board examinations.

The second examination, introduced this year under CBSE’s new two-exam system, allowed students to improve their scores or clear subjects they had failed in earlier. Students can access their results through the official CBSE websites, DigiLocker and the UMANG app. Under the board’s “best-of-two” policy, the higher score obtained in each subject will be reflected in the final marksheet, ensuring that students are not disadvantaged by taking a second attempt.

A Flexible Assessment

The 2026 academic session marked the first implementation of CBSE’s two-board examination model for Class 10, introduced in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Under the revised system, all students were required to appear for the main examination held in February, while eligible candidates were given an optional second opportunity in May to improve their scores or clear compartment subjects.

Internal assessment was conducted only once during the academic session and carried forward to both examination phases. Under CBSE’s “best-of-two” policy, the final consolidated marksheet reflects the higher score obtained in each subject, ensuring that students are not disadvantaged by taking the second examination.

The board has also continued its policy of not publishing Class 10 merit lists, saying the move is intended to discourage unhealthy competition and promote holistic learning over rank-based comparisons.

How To Check Your Result

Students can check their CBSE Class 10 Second Board Examination 2026 results by visiting the official websites cbse.gov.in, results.cbse.nic.in, or through DigiLocker and the UMANG app.

To access the scorecard, candidates need to enter their roll number, school number, admit card ID and date of birth (where applicable). Students are advised to download and save a copy of their provisional marksheet for future reference while awaiting the original documents from their respective schools.

A Shift Away

CBSE’s revised examination framework marks one of the biggest changes to India’s school assessment system in recent years. Introduced in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the two-board examination model aims to reduce the pressure associated with a single high-stakes test by giving students an additional opportunity to improve their performance within the same academic year.

Under the system, students’ higher score in each subject is reflected in the final marksheet, ensuring that taking the second examination does not disadvantage them. With the declaration of the second board examination results, the overall Class 10 pass percentage for the 2026 academic year stands at 96.78%, reflecting the combined outcome of both examination phases.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

A second chance can often make the difference between confidence and discouragement for a young learner. By giving students another opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, CBSE’s revised examination system moves towards recognising that academic performance should not be defined by a single day or a single paper.

However, meaningful reform should also be accompanied by stronger counselling support, equitable access to learning resources and continued efforts to reduce exam-related stress across schools. Education systems work best when they measure learning without compromising students’ well-being. Do you think offering multiple board examination attempts is a fairer way to assess students, or should India rethink school examinations altogether?
