The future is here
It might look like some futuristic vehicle from a Sci-fi Hollywood flick. But the long-awaited “straddling bus”is now a reality in China. And test run of this transit elevated bus (TEB) is going on in Qinhuangdao in the province of Hebei. The bus is 22 meter long and 7.8 meter wide. It is at a height of 4.8 meter from the ground and carry up to 300 passengers. The best part of this bus is that it checks the problem of traffic jams by rising above the vehicles on the road, allowing them to pass underneath.

Higher capacity & Good speed The trial run was conducted on a 300m-long controlled track. The vehicle is expected to reach speeds of up to 60km per hour, running on rails laid along ordinary roads and up to four TEBs can be linked together. So once it becomes fully functional, it can carry around 1,200 passengers.

India interested India is one of the countries that has expressed its interest to adopt this bus service along with Brazil, France and Indonesia. TEBs plying on the roads of Mumbai or Bangalore and other major metropolitan cities will come as a huge relief given the extent to which public transport is stretched and not to mention the huge traffic which has become a menace in these cities.
