The children, aged 8 and 9 and hailing from different families, are both from backward communities, according to NDTV. The two of them went to the neighbourhood shop where they allegedly picked up a packet of ‘chakli’ (a kind of snack) without the owner’s permission and ate it. Enraged by this, the shop owned, Mehmood Pathan (69), caught hold of the children and chopped off their hair with the help of his sons.

Not stopping at that, Pathan and his sons allegedly stripped the children, made them wear garlands of slippers, and paraded them on the street as punishment.

The children’s parents have lodged a complaint with the Hill Line police. Based on the complaint, Mr Pathan and his sons Irfan (26) and Salim (22) were arrested around midnight.

The Logical Indian community hopes that the police take strict action against Pathan and his sons for taking the law into their own hands. While it is obvious that stealing anything from anywhere is wrong and should be discouraged and condemned, nobody should dispense their form of justice on their own accord. The proper channels should be adhered to; all else is mob mentality.
