According to police, the primary accused, identified as Tarun Srivas, called the teenager-his girlfriend-to meet him on the pretext of spending time together. What followed, the survivor alleges, was a brutal and calculated assault that left her traumatised and fearful for her life.

Police officials said that after meeting her, Tarun allegedly consumed alcohol and raped her. He then reportedly allowed four of his friends to sexually assault her in succession. Among them was Bhuvan Sahu, a driver working with Dial 112-an emergency service meant to protect citizens during crises.

The accused allegedly threatened the teenager with death if she revealed the incident to anyone, further compounding her trauma.

Despite the fear and intimidation, the survivor approached the police on January 9 and filed a complaint, setting in motion an investigation that has since sent shockwaves across the state.

Police Action, Arrests, and Official Statements

Confirming the incident, Korba police stated that two of the five accused have been arrested, while three others remain absconding. Raids are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects. “We have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are pursuing all accused rigorously.

Strict action will be taken, irrespective of their profession or status,” a senior police official told reporters.

Authorities also confirmed that departmental proceedings have been initiated against the Dial 112 employee involved in the case.

“An employee entrusted with public safety being accused of such a crime is extremely serious. We are coordinating with the concerned department to ensure accountability,” the official added.

Medical examinations and counselling support have been arranged for the survivor, police said, emphasising that her statement is central to the investigation.

The administration has assured that no pressure will be allowed on the victim or her family and that the case will be pursued swiftly.
