The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a major change in the post-result process for Class 10 and 12 board examinations starting with the 2025 results. Students will now be entitled to first receive photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets before applying for verification of marks or re-evaluation.

This new procedure aims to enhance transparency, empower students with clearer insights into their performance, and streamline the grievance redressal mechanism. CBSE officials have clarified that after reviewing their answer scripts, students can choose to request verification, re-evaluation, or both, ensuring that applications are more informed and justified.

A Transparent and Student-Friendly Approach to Evaluation

Previously, students had to apply for verification of marks or re-evaluation without having access to their evaluated answer sheets, which often led to uncertainty and sometimes unnecessary applications. With the revised process, CBSE mandates that students first obtain photocopies of their evaluated answer books.

This allows them to carefully examine the marks awarded, evaluator comments, and any discrepancies before deciding on further action. An official CBSE statement explains, “A candidate after obtaining photocopy of evaluated answer book in the first step can decide whether to opt for Verification of marks which entails posting/totaling of marks or any unevaluated questions or Re-evaluation whereby the candidate requests for re-evaluation of a question or questions thereof.”

This shift is expected to reduce frivolous requests and provide students with a clearer understanding of their results, ultimately fostering greater trust in the evaluation system.

Step-by-Step Guide to the New Post-Result Process

To help students navigate this new system, here is the detailed procedure CBSE will follow from 2025 onwards:

  1. Result Declaration: CBSE announces Class 10 and 12 results on official portals such as cbseresults.nic.in, cbse.gov.in, and the UMANG app.
  2. Application for Photocopy: Students who wish to review their evaluated answer sheets apply online within the specified timeframe to receive photocopies.
  3. Receipt of Photocopies: CBSE provides scanned copies of the evaluated answer sheets digitally via the student’s registered account.
  4. Review of Photocopies: Students examine their answer sheets carefully to assess marking and evaluator comments.
  5. Decision on Further Action: Based on the review, students decide whether to apply for verification of marks, re-evaluation, or both.
  6. Submission of Verification/Re-evaluation Application: Students submit their requests online, referencing their photocopies, within the deadline.
  7. Processing Requests: CBSE processes these applications and communicates the outcome to the students.
  8. Final Result Update: If changes are made, CBSE updates the marks and issues revised mark sheets accordingly.

Background and Implementation Timeline

The decision follows growing demands from students, parents, and educators for more transparency and fairness in the evaluation process. In recent years, many students expressed frustration over the lack of clarity in the post-result procedures, leading to confusion and delays.

The CBSE Class 10 exams were conducted between February 15 and March 1, 2025, while Class 12 exams ran from February 15 to April 4, 2025. The board is anticipated to announce results for both classes by mid-May 2025.

Alongside the results, CBSE will release detailed guidelines on how students can access their evaluated answer sheets and the subsequent steps for verification or re-evaluation. These services will be accessible through official platforms such as cbseresults.nic.in, cbse.gov.in, and the UMANG app, ensuring ease of access for students nationwide.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

CBSE’s revised post-result process represents a commendable move towards greater transparency, fairness, and student empowerment in India’s education system. By allowing students to review their evaluated answer sheets before deciding on verification or re-evaluation, the board respects their right to informed decision-making and alleviates anxiety related to exam outcomes.

This change reflects values that The Logical Indian deeply supports – openness, empathy, and constructive dialogue – which are essential for nurturing a supportive educational environment.
