New Delhi: Foam From Toxic Industrial Waste Seen Floating In Yamuna River

Yamuna River Pollution: Pink foam from toxic industrial waste was seen floating in the Yamuna river near Okhla Barrage in New Delhi on March 21. However, this is not the first time toxic foam has been spotted on the Yamuna river.

Last year, just ahead of Chhath Puja in October, heavy foam was spotted on the river. The Delhi Jal Board then sprayed chemicals on the toxic foam to dissolve it.

An Indian Pangolin injured in a road accident was rescued by Forest Department, treated and released back into the forests within 24 hours by RESQ Team! RESQ is a Pune-based Charitable Trust, Rescue and Rehabilitation organization.

In India, Indian pangolins are listed in Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972. Since 2017, all pangolin species have been listed in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), prohibiting their commercial trade.

Indian Gaur Tagged As Vulnerable By IUCN Spotted In Matheran

A Twitter video shared by Akshay Mandavkar on March 19 shows an Indian Gaur spotted for the first time in Matheran (Louisa point).

Gaurs are the world’s largest and tallest wild bovines, with 85% of their current population in India. Male gaurs weigh 1,000-1,500kg while females weigh 700g-1,000kg. Their height ranges from 165-220cm (5-7ft). They are listed as Schedule I species under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and are tagged as “vulnerable” in the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List.

Tamil Nadu: Invasive Plant Creates Havoc In Mudumalai; 2000 Tonnes Cleared By Forest Dept

Senna spectabilis, an invasive plant, has been creating havoc in Mudumalai. It does not allow native species to grow. TNForest has started a massive exercise to remove these in partnership with TN Newsprint & paper Ltd, which uses it to make paper.
TN Forest Dept has cleared about 30 hectares of pristine Forest land in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve from the deadly invasive species Senna spectabilis. About 2000 tonnes were removed & transported to TN Newsprint and Paper Ltd to make paper.
