Refuting Arun Jaitley’s argument that the cash crunch in ATMs was temporary and sudden, the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh said that they have informed their concerns regarding the issue to both Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and the central government.

The Andhra government has described finance minister Arun Jaitley’s statement as ‘irresponsible’ and said that people were facing a lot of difficulties because of the cash crunch. “The bankers in the State have informed as of the date they are unable to meet the cash withdrawal requirements of customers and many of their ATMs have no cash. Shortage of currency notes is also seriously affecting the citizens,” wrote Chief Secretary SK Joshi.

Telangana Minister K T Rama Rao tweeted that the cash crunch was neither sudden nor temporary.

Nara Lokesh, one of the cabinet ministers in Andhra Pradesh and son of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu accused Arun Jaitley in his tweet for not understanding the reality.

It’s very sad that, Hon’ble Finance Minister @arunjaitley ji is not understanding the reality, and saying every thing is good. AP is facing severe cash crunch. AP Govt is not able to even give the pensions and pay to MGNREGS workers. (1/2)

He also said that the Chief Minister had written several times about the issue to union government, but no measures were taken. “At Least now, Central Govt. has to react on this, and resolve the issue at the earliest,” he added.

Arun Jaitley on Tuesday tweeted that the cash crunch was temporary and sudden.

Have reviewed the currency situation in the country. Over all there is more than adequate currency in circulation and also available with the Banks. The temporary shortage caused by ‘sudden and unusual increase’ in some areas is being tackled quickly.
