Bhim Yadav, a boy studying in the fifth standard is the hero of Bihar as he stopped a passenger train before it could get to a broken railroad track in the West Champaran district. Authorities have decided to reward him for his bravery.
“That is indeed a brave act. We are going to reward Bhim for his bravery, which saved the lives of all the passengers. The reward could be in the form of cash or citation. We are still deciding on it but one thing is sure, he is going to be rewarded,” Harendra Jha, the local district education officer, told the Gulf News.
The incident
Bhim was going towards his plantations when he recognized the broken railroad track on the Gorakhpur-Narkatiaganj railroad line. He kept running as quickly as possible on the tracks and took off his red shirt, waving it as a warning to get the speeding train to stop.
“I didn’t know how to stop the train but used my presence of mind. I took off my shirt and ran on the tracks after watching a train coming on the track. The driver finally stopped the train,” Bhim said, according to Gulf News.
As per reports, the driver at first was confused about what was going on. Eventually, the driver pulled the emergency brake, which stopped the train halfway. It was then that the driver realized that the track was broken.
Bhim told the media, “Once I had visited a relative in the nearby village where the people were talking about the bravery of a boy. I too wanted to do something so that the society could discuss me as well. I am happy to save the lives of the passengers.”
The Railway authorities are also planning to reward him. “We are proud of this boy and salute his bravery,” chief public relations officer of the East Central Railways Rajesh Kumar said to the Gulf News.
Cricketer Virendra Sehwag too tweeted about the young boy appreciating his presence of mind.
